Chapter 17

Amy stared at the computer screen in front of her, her eyes going wide. There was no doubt about it. She knew exactly who had helped Marina Del Mar sneak onto the ship. The only question was, did she have a link to the murders?

“Good morning.” Amy’s eyes shot up from the computer to Lisa Kinney. “I thought you were covering the pool.”

“It’s closed because of the storm.” Amy swallowed hard.

“So, you thought you’d help out in the office?” Lisa asked, taking a coffee pot from its stand by the door and pouring herself a cup. She stirred the coffee and glanced over at Amy, her blond ponytail slipping over the shoulder of her white uniform blouse.

“Something like that,” Amy responded. She slipped her phone from her pocket, dialed Uncle A’s phone, and hoped he answered.

“And that help includes looking over guest records?” Lisa asked, staring over at her. “I couldn’t help but notice that’s what you have open.”

Amy glimpsed down at the phone and realized it was connected. She let the breath she was holding out and clicked the speaker on. “Fine, yes, that is what I was looking at, and yes, I know I should have been looking at the guest records on the system, but then again you shouldn’t have helped Marina Del Mar get on this ship as Marcia Keller either, should you, Lisa?” Amy glanced at the phone praying her uncle kept quiet.

“How do you know about that?” Lisa snapped.

“It’s obvious when you look,” Amy replied. “I knew someone had to have done it. I knew who Marina was, her fake name, her room number. It wasn’t hard.”

Lisa’s eyes went wide. “Are you going to tell Captain Redding and that British police officer?”

Amy paused, staring at the computer, her mind racing. She couldn’t believe Lisa would hurt anyone, but still, it had to be a puzzle piece. She looked back at Lisa. “Not if I don’t have to,” she stated. “But I need to know what happened. Why did you do it?”

Lisa sat down in a chair by the coffeepot, her mug trembling slightly in her hand. “Money,” she replied. She glanced up at Amy. “I, my niece… she, she has a few learning issues,” Lisa admitted. “There are things that could help her out, a lot. My sister is working all the hours she can, and even though I help her, it’s never quite enough,” Lisa admitted. “Somehow she knew.” Lisa looked up at Amy. “Marina somehow knew all about Kylie. She said that if I helped her get onto the ship with a fake name, she’d pay me enough to help her out. All I did was check her passport and file her as onboard. I knew who she was. I saw her passport. Everything was done right, only I checked her in as Marcia, not Marina,” Lisa explained sadly. “It didn’t hurt anyone.”

“What about Chester?” Amy questioned.

“Chester?” Lisa asked with a confused look on her face.

“Marina’s dog,” Amy replied.

“She never told me about him until she’d already boarded.
